Water
Harvesting

The area where The Sacred Grove is located is primarily drought prone. The geology of the place is such that water is to be found at less than two feet depth during monsoon but is not traceable beyond that even at the depth of 800 feet for a borewell.

This agricultural land came along with a borewell and an old, open well. Keeping in view that the residential Ayurveda based therapies, plantation, farming etc require large volumes of water, a large pond was created at a suitable location, to harvest surface water. At present, the borewell takes care of the Non agriculture activities and the Agriculture needs are primarily by the Well and the pond. However, more inputs are required for water management on the campus. One step in this direction has been to map swales to feed the existing water bodies.

Along with the team at The Sacred Grove, experts in the field of water conservation and management have done a pilot study of the numerous ponds created by the Chola kingdom around The Sacred Grove. The water management experts have advised that the two large ponds on either side of the land need to be rejuvenated through desilting. The efforts are on to get support from the State Government, for, this will benefit not only The Sacred Grove but also the adjoining villages.
